University Ministries - UMW and Germanna CC Students
The Backstory: While serving as pastor for 12 years at Mt Pleasant Community Church near the campus of Central Michigan University, we chose to never have a separate ministry group for university students. Instead, we became a church that actively welcomed and involved CMU students in every area of our ministry and actively supported on-campus student ministries like InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Campus Crusade.
How did that work out? It meant that university students taught in our Children's Ministry, got involved in our home groups, went on our mission trips, served in our Middle School Ministry, played guitar in our Worship Team and even rented rooms from our people. It meant that we hosted retreat weekends, helped plant an InterVarsity chapter, setup of internships for their degree programs, provided speakers for meetings and hosted parties for Alumni weekends. It was one of the most exhilarating ministry arrangements that I (Pastor Bill) have ever been involved in.
Now that we have moved to Fredericksburg to lead the ministry of Christ Covenant, I aim to serve the students of our area institutions like the University of Mary Washington and Germanna Community College in the same way. We extend an open invitation to university students to share life with us: growing in the Gospel and serving as God grows and guides us.
